Virginia Martha Smith Even
Mass of Christian Burial for Virginia Martha (Smith) Even, 77, will be held Saturday, June 15, 2002, 10:30 a.m., at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church, Cogswell, N. D. Interment will follow in Mr. Calvary Cemetery, in Cogswell. Rosary and Vigil Service will be held June 14, 2002, 7:30 p.m., at Price Funeral Chapel, Forman, N. D.
A memorial service will be held in Lusk on Thursday, June 20, 6:30 p.m., at St. Leo's Catholic Church.
Virginia Even died June 6, 2002, in Casper.
She was born July 31, 1924, in Oakes, N. D., the daughter of Harry William "Red" Smith and Adeline Marie (McCauley) Smith. She was raised and attended school in Cogswell. Beginning as a young girl she worked at her parents' renowned "Smith's Barn" dances outside of Cogswell.
On June 16, 1952, she married John Howard Even in Cogswell. They farmed for many years in the Cogswell area.
She was a teacher and later a teacher's aide for several years. She made wedding cakes and was a long time CCD teacher.
She moved to Lusk in 1996.
Her interests included needlework, quilting, family history and enjoying her many grandchildren.
She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, the North Dakota Teachers Association, Cogswell Senior Citizens, and Lusk Senior Citizens. She was a long time member of Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church in Cogswell and a member of St. Leo's Catholic Church in Lusk.
Virginia is survived by her brothers: Kirk of Grand Forks, N. D., and Dennis of Lisbon, N. D.; six children; Danny and Bruce, both of Pierre, S.D., Leo of Wheatland, Paul of Springfield, Mo., Irene Morris of New Egypt, N. J., and Todd of Lusk; 15 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband John and brother Harry William. Memorials may be made to Cardinal Muench Seminary, 100 35th Ave. SE, Fargo, ND 58102-1299
