John Dieckmann Dies at Age 96
John Dieckmann, 96, at Bayard died Tuesday morning in a Scottsbluff Hospital. He had been hospitalized about three weeks.
He was born August 11, 1869 in Schleswig-Halstein, Germany. He came to the United States in 1880, settling first in Chicago. He later moved to Lincoln and then homesteaded at Harrison. His original homestead is now owned by Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Grote. During the years he lived in Sioux county he and the late John Lacy owed a feed store where the Herren Brothers Lumber Co., now is. He worked a number of years in the meat department of the Koch Mercantile. He was also an auctioneer.
He was married to Esther Priest in Harrison on March 31, 1929. In 1938 they moved to a farm near Bayard. Mr. Dieckmann retired in 1947 and had since lived in Bayard.
Survivors include his widow, one son, John of Bayard, one brother Alfred, of Florida, and three grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at the Bayard Methodist Church on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. H. Duane Sinn officiating. Burial was at Bayard.
