The first of four films in the “We the People” dinner & movie series, “Swing Vote” will be shown on Monday, January 27 at 6 p.m. It’s November 2004 in New Mexico - Bud is a slacker with one good thing in his life, his daughter Molly. Set on Election Day, Bud is supposed to meet his daughter at the polling place. When he doesn't show, she sneaks a ballot and is about to vote when the power goes off. It turns out that New Mexico's electoral votes will decide the contest, and it's tied with one vote needing recasting - Bud's. Deane Tucker returns to lead the discussion and a light meal will also be available. Library programs are free and open to the public.

“Buckskin, Bloomers, and Me” by Johnny D. Boggs is loosely based on fact. What’s a 16 year-old boy to do when he learns that his step-mother and a local judge have murdered his father and now plan to kill him, too. Well, it’s 1906 and you can play a pretty good second base, so you join a barn-storming baseball team making its way across Kansas. It also helps that the team is the Kansas City National Bloomer Girls. After all, who’d look for a run-away boy disguised as a girl on a woman’s team that competes against town teams of male players?

Other new fiction books are “Love in Catalina Cove” by Brenda Jackson, “Warner and Laura” by Giles Tippette, “Leopard’s Wrath” by Christine Feehan, “Apache Springs” by Frank Leslie, “Scarlet Fever” by Rita Mae Brown, “An Irish Country Family” by Patrick Taylor, “Into the Dark” by Karen Rose, “Michael Crichton’s the Andromeda Evolution” by Daniel H.
