Great Western Milling and Mining was recreated as a quilt square by The Bag Ladies for their Historic Quilt in 2001.
Around 1884 the Great Western Mining and Milling Company was built on Mining Hill, west of Lusk and located near the tent town of Silver Cliff. An early prospector, McHenry, directed mining in Silver Cliff Hill in 1880. Miners lived in tents, and mined for copper, silver and gold for four years. During the mining boom Jack Madden built a large stone barn and road house northwest of the hill. When the mining venture collapsed, the stone barn became a stage station on the Cheyenne-Deadwood Trail.
