A. J. Keller the last Civil War veteran of Manville and one of our most esteemed citizens passed away on July 3rd at the Military National home at Leavenworth,Kansas. Mr.Keller was taken from here last fall in hopes that a change might prove beneficial for his health, but his declining years and the effects of his service in the war were against him and he gradually weakened until claimed by death.

The following obituary from The Hamburg (Iowa) Reporter gives a brief outline of his life which will be read with interest by the people here as Mr.Keller was one of Manville's most honored citizens:

Andrew Keller was born June 10, 1835 near Jacksonville, Ind. and died at the Military National Home at Leavenworth, Kansas, July 3, 1918, aged 83 years and 23 days. He came to Decatur County, Iowa with his parents when 19 years of age. He was married to Sarah A. Edminston, August 18, 1861 and to this union was born one daughter, Ida Belle who died in 1882. He enlisted in the service of the Civil war in 1862 and was a member of the 34th Regiment, Co. I, Volunteers. In 1864 he was discharged for disability. He joined the M.E. church when he was 14 years of age and lived a devoted Christian life. He leaves an aged wife to mourn her loss.
