Mary A. Newcomb
Funeral services for Mary A. Newcomb, age 95, were held Monday, April 1, 1991, at 2 p.m. in the Peet Mortuary Chapel in Lusk with Rev. A. David Donnelly officiating. Burial followed in the Lusk Cemetery.
Newcomb died Wednesday, March 27, 1991, at the Niobrara County Memorial Nursing Home in Lusk. She was born July 5, 1895, in Marcus, Iowa, the daughter of Michael and Ann Geilenz. She attended school in Canada where she lived with the family until moving to Otis, Colo.
She married Clyde Newcomb on Jan. 15, 1915, in Colorado. Ten children were born to this union and she was proud that all seven of her sons served in either World War II or the Korean War.
In 1944 she moved to Lusk from Long Pine, Neb., to help her daughter Velma on the farm while Velma's husband was in the V. A. Hospital. She moved into Lusk that fall and resided in her own home until 1984 when she entered the nursing home, where she resided until the time of her death.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, a brother, Bill Geilenz, two sons, Herman and Fred and two daughters, Irene and Alice.
Survivors include one daughter, Velma Brinkerhoff of Lusk; five sons, Andy of Lusk, Albert of Omak, Wash., Dean of John Day, Ore., Earl of Glenwood Springs, Colo. and Carl of Mokenna, Ill.; one sister, Clara Kneise of Fort Collins, Colo.; 36 grandchildren, 61 great-grandchildren, and 14 great-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
For those who wish, memorials to the Niobrara County Memorial Nursing Home will be appreciated by the family. Peet Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.
