John Nance Dies Saturday
John Nance, 70, passed away at his home in Lusk at 7:30 Saturday morning, March 15, after being in failing health for a number of years.
Mr. and Mrs. Nance moved from Shawnee to Lusk about three years ago to make their home and purchased the Emma Marsh residence just south of the Baptist Church.
Mr. Nance was a musician and as a hobby made beautiful handmade violins.
He was born at Springfield, Ill., Feb. 25, 1877, the son of Elias and Nancy Ann Nance. At the age of five he moved with his parents to Valparaiso, Neb. March 18, 1909, he was married to Mary Smolek of Brainard, Neb., with the marriage service being performed at Wahoo.
After living at Valparaiso for seven years the couple moved to a homestead at Shawnee, Wyoming, where they resided for 28 years, and then retired and moved to Lusk.
They were the parents of four children. One son Lloyd William died at Douglas, Wyo., Dec. 14, 1942. Mr. Nance is survived by his wife Mary, and one son, Roy Louis of Shawnee, and by two daughters, Mrs. Ina May Harris of Oglala, S. Dak., and Mrs. Nellie Kosine of Crawford, Neb.
Funeral services were conducted from the Peet Chapel on Monday, with the Rev. Ezra Duncan, pastor of the Baptist Church officiating.
Two songs, "Abide With Me" and "Come Ye Disconsolate," were sung by Miss Dorothy Humphrey and Miss Phyllis Owens, accompanied by Mrs. Gerald Bardo.
Interment was made in the Lusk Cemetery and the remains were carried to their last resting place by George Ferguson, George Deitchler, Gilbert Bernbeck, John Alter, John Jassman and Anthon Hansen.
