Manke Funeral Held Saturday In Edgemont

Funeral service for Allie Manke, 62, were held at the Shared Ministry Church, Edgemont, S.D., Saturday, July 29, at 2:00 p.m. Mr. Manke died July 26 at his home in Edgemont.

Rev. Richard Tufte conducted the service with Mrs. James Bastian, organist, accompanying Dr. James Bastian who sang "My Task" and "Empty Saddles". Burial was in the Edgemont Cemetery.

Casketbearers were Mr. Manke's nephews Watt Hanscom, Rapid City; John Sides, Smithwick, S.D.; Bill White, Jim White and Tom White, Oelrichs, S.D.; and Vick Varick, Homer, Alaska.

Honorary pall bearers were Cyril Kane, Sam Rennard, John Rice, John Marty, Herman Heck, Kenneth Helsel, Lawrence Danks, Joe Kane, Miles Spencer, Leo Seppala, Mason Miller all of Edgemont; Jack Hall and Joe Marsh, Custer, S.D.; Jim Reed and Russ Christenson, Newcastle; Ed Boner, Lusk; and Frank Wilson, Hot Springs.

Alfred Clayton Manke was born May 5, 1910 in Rapid City, S.D. to John and Josephine Manke. Allie married Dorothy White of Oelrichs, S.D. February 16, 1934 in Edgemont. He ranched in Niobrara and Weston Counties in Wyoming and Fall River County in South Dakota. He owned and operated the Edgemont Livestock Sales for a number of years and was president of the Cheyenne River Telephone Company at Mule Creek, Wyo. for 30 years; member of the Wyoming and South Dakota Stockgrowers Associations and the Edgemont Chamber of Commerce. For the past four years he owned and operated the Rainbow and Cloverleaf Motels in Edgemont.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy, and one son Franklin of Newcastle, two grandchildren, Janie Childers, Edgemont and Jay Manke, Newcastle; one sister Smithwich, S.D.; one brother Jack Manke, Hot Springs and several nieces and nephew.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one son, Charles, who died in infancy.
