Orville Lerud

Orville Lerud, age 79, of Lusk, passed away on Wednesday at the V. A. Medical Center in Hot Springs, S. D. Funeral services were held on July 10, 2000 2 p.m. at the Cicmanec-Pier Funeral Home in Lusk. Elks Lodge #1797 of Lusk will conduct the ceremony. Interment followed in the Lusk Cemetery.

Mr. Lerud was born December 18, 1920, in Sacred Heart, Minn. of Olaf and Gustava Lerud.

He attended Sacred Heart Public Schools. In 1941 he went to work for Interstate Aircraft and Engineering of El Segundo, Calif. In 1942 Mr. Lerud enlisted in the U. S. Navy, serving time in the Northern Solomons and Truck Area in Patrol Bombing Squadron #148, participating in three engagements. He received an honorable discharge in March 1946.

On June 7, 1947, he married Irene W. Hirt Langseth in Minneapolis, Minn. They farmed in the Sacred Heart, Minn. area for 30 years and also worked on various construction projects. He also served as Township Assessor of Sacred Heart for 18 years.

In 1972 the couple moved to Lance Creek, Wyo. He worked for various companies including, Hoff Water Service, Plains Pipeline Construction, Landkamer Trenching and for several ranchers in the area. In February 1978 they moved into Lusk and worked for Lamb Construction.

He was the past Exalted Ruler of Lusk Elks Lodge #1797, a charter member of Niobrara Sportsman Club, a member of the Wyoming Wildlife Federation, Niobrara and Wyoming Democratic Party, Trail Country Travels and a lifetime member of the V. F. W.

He was preceded in death by his wife Irene, parents and four sisters.

He is survived by one daughter, Joanne Skrukrud and husband John of Sacred Heart, Minn.; three sons, Arvid and wife Patty Lerud of Sioux Falls, S. D., Roger and wife Marlene Lerud of Sacred Heart, and Olaf and wife Linda Lerud of Echo, Minn.; 13 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Cicmanec-Pier Funeral Home of Lusk was in charge of the arrangements.
