Ura O. Kirtley Dies at Buffalo

Ura O. Kirtley of Buffalo, Wyo., died in the Johnson County Hospital May 6 after a two weeks illness of double pneumonia. Funeral services were held in the Methodist Church in Kaycee Saturday and burial was in the cemetery there.

Mr. Kirtley moved with his family from LaGrande, Ore., in the spring of 1892 to a homestead which is known as Kirtley where his mother started the post office. He was the oldest of six children.

He with his father, S. L. Kirtley, and a younger brother, Locke H., drove 14 head of horses across the mountains and prairies while the rest of the family traveled by train to Harrison, Neb.

Mr. Kirtley attended the country schools and the University of Wyoming in Laramie. He went with his family to Hot Springs, S. Dak., in 1898, but he liked Wyoming better so settled on a ranch near Kaycee where he was in the sheep business.

He was married to Stella Webb and they had six children. Surviving are his wife, two daughters, Mary Sherburne, Wichita, Kan., and Miss Zaido of San Francisco, and one son, Ura Locke who lives in Sheridan, Wyo. One sister, Mary E. Magowan Ross lives at Gordon, Neb.
