Travis Lee Kilmer

Services for Travis Lee Kilmer, age 21, were held Nov. 16, at the Presbyterian Church in Valentine, Neb. He died Nov. 11 in Kearney, Neb.

Mr. Kilmer was born Jan. 6, 1972 in Valentine, Neb. to Evelyn and Bob Kilmer.

Travis attended elementary and high school in Valentine and was a junior at the University of Nebraska-Kearny.

He participated in band in Jr. High and high school and was a member of the Heart City Choralaires and choir. He received numerous music awards including honor band, all-state band, the John Phillip Sousa Award and the Louis Armstrong Jazz Award.

He also played varsity football and competed in track.

In college, he majored in Music education, participating in many of the instrumental ensembles at college and in 1992 toured with The Railmen Drum and Bugle Corps.

At the time of his death, Mr. Kilmer was giving music lessons, assistant music director at Elm Creek High School and a brass teacher for the Railmen.

Travis was a member of the Nebraska Music Educator's Association, Music Educator's National Conference and the Nebraska State Band Master's Association.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents and his maternal grandfather, John Hammond.

His is survived by his parents; brother, Willis Kilmer and wife Marla; nephews, Ryan and John, all of Valentine, Neb.; brother, Kelly and wife Ilene; nieces, Page and Emily of Chadron, Neb.; and grandparents Mary and Warren Robertson, of Lusk, Wyo.

Interment was in the Mount Hope Cemetery in Valentine. Sandoz Chapel of the Pines was in charge of arrangements.
