Sterling E. Kelley

Graveside services for Sterling E. Kelley, 60, were held at 10 a.m. Thursday, May 16, 1991, in Prairie Rest Cemetery with Darrel Petty as eulogist and military rites by Lake Guernsey Post No. 4471 of the V.F.W. Memorial gifts to the Curie Fund at Memorial Hospital in Cheyenne, Wyo., would be appreciated by the family.

Kelley died at Platte County Memorial Hospital in Wheatland, Wyo., on Monday, May 13, 1991.

He was born July 17, 1930 at Lusk, the son of Sterling and Mable (Butts) Kelley and he grew up and received his education in Lance Creek and Manville. He graduated from Manville High School and entered the military services where he was both in the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps.

He served in the Korean Conflict. After his discharge he returned to Lance Creek where he worked at various jobs until employment with the State of Wyoming at Camp Guernsey. After 15 years he retired in October 1990 and retired also from the National Guard in July 1990 after 20 years of service.

He married Dagmar E. Jozwik in Lusk, Wyo., on March 2, 1957, and they enjoyed the outdoors, hunting and fishing and he was also a black powder enthusiast. He belonged to the Lake Guernsey Post No. 4471 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the National Rifle Association and the Rawhide Mountain Black Powder Gun Club.

In addition to his wife he is also survived by four children; Deidre A. Ness of Sturgis, S.D., Michael K. Kelley and Erin C. Conner, both of Guernsey and Shawn S. Kelley of Phoenix, Ariz.; his mother, Mable Kelley of Guernsey; three sisters, Beatrice Gillespie of Morriston, Ariz., Clara Byrd of Fort Laramie, and Frances Haefele of Guernsey and a brother, Stephen Kelley of Guernsey; and seven grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father.
