Walter Storrie Killed Tuesday in Boat Accident
Walter Storrie, 66, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Storrie, pioneers of the Hat Creek area, was drowned in a boating accident 20 miles east of Encampment Tuesday,
The boat in which he was riding capsized in fast-running Corral Creek. Storrie and two other companions were thrown from the boat when it hit rocks in the stream. The other men made it to the shore safety. Storrie's body was found about a mile down stream.
Mr. Storrie owned one of the first automobiles in this area and was an early-day flyer. After leaving this community he established a Buick dealership in Casper and later worked for General Motors. During both World War I and II he served in the Air Corp and was retired with the rank of colonel.
He is survived by his wife, Estelle, and mother, Mrs. Walton G. Roberts of Denver. Mrs. Mae Fields of Lusk is a cousin.
Funeral services will be held from the Moore Mortuary in Denver at 11:30 a.m. Friday. Interment will be in the Fairmount Cemetery in Denver.
Mr. Storrie was a member of a Casper Masonic Lodge, Casper Elks Lodge, Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity at the University of Wyoming, and a life member of the Wyoming Pioneer Association.
