Word was received on Monday that Henry L. Reed, a former pioneer resident of Lusk, had died Sunday night, February 22, at his home in Covina, Calif. Mr. Reed had been in declining health for some time with a heart ailment.

Mr. Reed came to Wyoming in the 1870's and was very active in the sheep business in this section and near Gillette. The historic old Emma Ranch, near Rawhide, was one of his early holdings. It was there that his wife, Mrs. Etta Hargraves Reed, established the first school in this section.

Mr. Reed was united in marriage to Etta R. Hargraves. To them were born two daughters, Belle and Pearl, and one son, Harvey. The latter died in infancy, and Mrs. Etta Reed passed away in 1890.

A few years later Mr. Reed and Lulu Hand Baker married and for many years their home was the one now owned by Frank Bradley. they then moved to Omaha and from there to California, but all through these years they were annual summer visitors in Lusk.

Mr. Reed is survived by his daughters, Mrs. Belle Cox of Los Angeles, and Mrs. Pearl Strever of Billings, Mont., and also by several grandchildren. His brother, Albert Reed, and sister, Mrs. Ella Hargraves, preceded him in death several years ago.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday afternoon in Covina. From there the remains were sent to Lusk, accompanied by his daughter, Mrs. Belle Cox, and Mrs. Dollie McDavid and Jesse L. Hall.

Funeral services in Lusk will be held on Saturday afternoon, February 28 at 2:00 o'clock from the Peet Mortuary with the Rev. Millard Marshall presiding at the services. Interment will be in the Lusk Cemetery.
