Howard C. Britton

Howard C. Britton, retired rancher of the Prairie Center community and more recently a resident of Portland, Ore., died from a coronary Oct. 21 at Baker, Ore., at the home of his son Charles.

Howard Chester Britton, son of Chester H. and Nanie B. Britton, was born in Polk County, Iowa, Dec. 24, 1883. He came to Nebraska with his parents in March 1886, where his father homesteaded 16 miles southeast of Crawford. In 1891 he made a trip with his parents by covered wagon through the Yellowstone National Park.

His mother died in November 1891 and in 1893 he returned to Iowa and lived with his grandparents. In 1898 he returned to Nebraska where he resided until March 1914. At that time he homesteaded in the Prairie Center community where he lived until November 1958 when he moved to Portland.

He was married to Helena C. Siekert at Crawford April 14, 1909. Five children were born to them and all survive. They are Mrs. Alice Podolak, Lusk; Lester of Portland; Charles of Baker, Ore.; Erle of Littleton, Colo. and Mrs. Ruth Brinkel of Laurel, Mont. Two brothers also survive: Bert of Sidney, Neb. and Clarence of Portland. There are (14 or 15) grandchildren and one great grandson. Mr. Britton's wife died July 8, 1958.
