Mrs. Effie Wise, wife of Frank Wise, and a resident of Niobrara county since 1917 passed away in Lusk last Sunday evening, March 9th after a protracted illness. The deceased was 78 years, nine months and 18 days of age. The family resided northwest of Lusk many years and in 1934 they moved to Lusk where they have resided since. Besides the husband Mrs. Wise is survived by two sons and a daughter, Colonel whose address is unknown; Walter of Riverton Wyoming and Mrs Ina Kinney of Lusk. There are also eight grandchildren. Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon, March 12th at the Peet Mortuary Chapel with Rev. M. H. Marshall in charge. Mrs H. J. Templeton and Mrs Abdon DeCastro sang " Rock of Ages" and "God Be With You Until We Meet Again" with Mrs J. P. Watson Pianist. Casket bearers were Melvin Pensfield, Oxro Penfield, Lenn Penn, Henry Deetjen, J. P.Costlow and Weskey Neill. Interment was in the Lusk cemetery. Effie S. Handy was born in Warren County Iowa, May 19, 1862, the daughter of Mr and Mrs Samuel Handy. She grew to young womanhood and was united in marriage to Frank Wise at Harlan Iowa on June 1, 1882. This marriage had extended over a period of more than 58 years. The first few years of their married life were spent in Iowa and Kansas, later moving to central and western Nebraska where they resided until 1917 when they moved Niobrara county, Wyoming and homesteaded some twenty miles north of Lusk and east of Lance Creek oil field.

Mr. and Mrs. Wise moved to Lusk in 1934 and have resided here since that time. During the past few years failing health had kept her from active work altho it was not until her last illness that she was unable to do her usual housework. Mrs. Wise was a faithful wife and kind mother, never complaining of her lot and spreading cheer to those around her. She will be greatly missed by her many relatives, friends and neighbors.
