Mrs. Val Jessen Dies in Denver Sun.

Mrs. Val Jessen, who observed her 80th birthday July 1, died Sunday at 5:00 a.m. at the Rocky Mountain Orthopedic Hospital in Denver, following a brief illness. She had been a resident of the Casa Del nursing home in Denver since the death of her husband, Val Jessen, last February 2.

Mrs. Jessen was well known in Lusk, where she had visited many times. She was born in Oxford County, Ontario, Canada, and came with her parents to Saginaw County, Michigan, when she was 8 years of age. She first came to Wyoming in 1907, residing in Cheyenne, and in 1909 came to Newcastle, where she resided until 1934.

Mrs. Jessen served several years as postmaster of Newcastle and was active in all city affairs. In 1934 Mr. Jessen was transferred to Grand Junction, Colo, where he served as superintendent of mails until his retirement in 1952.

Mrs. Jessen is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Alfred H. Beach of Terre Haute, Indiana, and Mrs. James B. Griffith, Sr., of Lusk, and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held from the Callahan-Edfast mortuary in Grand Junction, Colo., Wednesday with the Rev. Paul Habliston, rector of Mesa cemetery at Grand Junction. Mrs. Jessen was a life-long Episcopalian and had been active in church work for many years.

Mrs. Griffith accompanied by Mrs. Ardith Dixon left Tuesday to attend the funeral.
