Julia Inez Brewster was born July 16, 1872 at Point Pleasant, W. Va. She was the eldest daughter of John Taylor and Harriet Maupin Hogg. Most of her childhood was spent near Point Pleasant on her father's farm. She was educated there and completed a fine arts course at Barboursville College in West Virginia.
In 1896 the Hogg family moved to Wyoming and filed on land at the head of Lance Creek and the Cheyenne River. The family later moved to Edgemont to be closer to school.
In 1897 she married Charles Logan Brewster of Lead, S. D. The couple made their home at Lead where Mr. Brewster was a contractor in the Homestake Gold Mine. They moved back to Wyoming and established their own ranch which is known as the Bar X Bar Ranch. Here she reared her family, two sons and two daughters, later moving to Edgemont where the children were educated.
For the past 12 years Mr. and Mrs. Brewster have spent the winters in California.
Mrs. Brewster showed great talent in her many oil paintings. She was a member of the Royal Neighbors, a member of Hesperian Rebekah Lodge No. 34 of Edgemont of which she was secretary and past noble grand and very active in church work.
