Cynthia Louise Serres

Cynthia Louise Serres, 48, passed away June 4, 2008 at her home in Idaho Falls, Id. after a courageous battle with cancer. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 11, 2008, at St. Leo's Catholic Church in Lusk, Wyo. Interment will be at the Montrose Cemetery at Montrose, Nebr.

She was born June 8, 1959 in Alliance, Neb. to Edward John Serres and Mary Martilda "Tilly" Wasserburger, both of Nebraska.

In 1977 she graduated from Niobrara County High School in Lusk, and later graduated in 1980 from Alliance School of Practical Nursing in Alliance, Nebraska with her LPN.

Cynthia first married Billy Jean Canaday on Aug. 25, 1978 in Chadron, Neb., and later married Kevin Randall Lay on Aug. 16, 1983 in Torrington, Wyo.

After obtaining her nursing license she worked at various nursing homes in both Wyoming and Wisconsin. For fifteen years she worked for Western Visiting Nurses in Idaho Falls, Id. where she was known as the "Purple Nurse."

She was a member of the Catholic Church and enjoyed crossword puzzles, reading, shooting pool, gambling and most of all spending time with her family.

Cynthia will always be remembered for continuously caring for others beyond what was necessary with no regard for herself.

She is survived by her life partner, Arthur Robert Mauer of Idaho Falls, two daughters; Jill Lynn (Erik L.) Guthrie of Thornton, CO, and Jacie Marie Lay of Boise, two sons; Jerad Allen Lay of Idaho Falls, and Robert Arthur (Cherrie M) Mauer of Havelock, NC and three grandchildren.

Cynthia is preceded in death by her former husbands Billy Jean Canaday, and Kevin Randall Lay, also her father, Edward John Serres, her mother, Mary Martilda Serres, a sister Lavonne Pilgrim, another sister Betty Howland, and three brothers, Jimmy Serres, Bob Serres, and Ken Serres.

Online condolences for the family may be left at Pier Funeral Home in Lusk is in charge of arrangements.
