Mrs. Silas Harris of Jay Em Passes Away at Alliance
Mrs. Silas Harris of Jay Em passed away on Saturday, January 5th at the Alliance hospital. Although Mrs. Harris had not enjoyed good health for some time, her illness had not taken on a serious nature until just a few days previous to her death, when she was removed from her home to the Alliance Hospital. Death is attributed to Brights' disease.
Services, with Rev. Woodard of Ft. Laramie officiating, were held Monday afternoon at the home in Jay Em and at Jay Em hall.
The remains were entombed in the Harris mausoleum in Forest Mound cemetery at Jay Em.
Mrs. Gertrude Harris was born September 7, 1862 at Reesville, Wis. In 1885 whe was united in marriage with Silas Harris. In 1898 Mr. Harris came to Wyoming, but because of educational advantages for her sons, Mrs. Harris remained in Wisconsin until 1907 when she joined Mr. Harris and they settled at Jay Em.
The deceased was a woman of sterling character, standing always for the finer and uplifiting things of life. She was a staunch friend and a true neighbor.
Besides her husband those left to mourn her passing, are three sons, Art, Lake and Frank, all of Jay Em; seven grandchildren and one brother, Fred Etschied of Reeseville, Wis. All were in attendance at the last rites.
