Wendall Lavoye Whitaker

A memorial was held for Wendall Lavoye Whitaker, of Redwood City, Calif. on Dec. 14, 2003. Cremains were flown over Goshen County, Wyoming. Wendall Whitaker died Oct. 30, 2003.

He was born Dec. 14, 1931 at the Kenneth Grove Place west of Keeline, Wyo.; to Franklin D. and Ethel J (Bartos) Whitaker. He was the grandson of Joe and Minnie (Wanek) Bartos, who homesteaded in 1912 near Lost Springs, Wyo. He attended grade school in Keeline, then completed his education in South San Francisco, Calif., graduating in 1949. He then attended San Francisco College. He was drafted into the Army during the Korean War, and spent 16 months in Korea as a dental assistant.

He is survived by his mother Ethel Church and step-father Jim Church of Aptos, Calif. Two brothers, Jimmy Whitaker of San Carlos, Calif., and Ted Whitaker of Lingle, Wyo.; half-brother, Marty Church of San Carlos; half-sister Benecia Price of Redwood City, Calif.; and his partner of many years, Ralph Coldwell of Redwood City.

He was preceded in death by his father and a brother, Jack.
