Clarence Strait

Graveside services for Clarence G. Strait were Wednesday, April 12, 2000, at the Lusk Cemetery with Rev. Tom Strock officiating.

Clarence died April 8, 2000, at the Michael Manor Nursing Home in Douglas after the closing of the Niobrara Nursing Home where he had resided for eight months.

He was born June 22, 1918, at Brownsville, Neb., the son of Ruel E. and Mollie P. (Goff) Strait. He moved to northwest Neb., with his family and went to country school; he moved to Crawford, Neb., where he finished his schooling.

As a young boy he started working for Northwestern Railroad.

He married Grace Simmons in June, 1941. He entered the service and served in World War II. His job with the railroad was held for him and he returned to work for them in 1945, transferring to Lusk in 1953 and retiring in 1977. The Straits took several trips in their pickup and camper, enjoying the country and visiting their son in Texas. He enjoyed his dog, yard work and small projects.

He is survived by his son, Don and wife Essie of Paradise, Texas; sister Beulah Yarbrough of Lusk; nieces Lola and husband Denny Dobson, Lusk; Mima Lue and husband Gary Dodd, Crawford, Neb.; cousin Iolene Britton, Casper, Wyo.; five grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, great nieces, and nephews, great-great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, sister Pearl Owens, brother James Strait; granddaughter Yolanda; nephew Larry Owens, great-great niece Tabitha Johnson.

Memorials to the Niobrara Senior Center will be appreciated.

Cicmanec-Pier Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
