Del Shoopman, former county, official dies
Delmar A. Shoopman, former Niobrara County official died September 25 at the Niobrara County Memorial Hospital. Funeral service was held Saturday in the Peet Chapel at 1:00 p.m. The Rev. Ron Simms, All Saints Episcopal Church of Torrington, officiated. Masonic rites were conducted by Past Master Gerald Bardo of Harmony Lodge of Lusk of which Mr. Shoopman was a long-time member. He had originally belonged to Roosevelt Lodge at Manville of which he was master in 1933. That lodge later merged with the Lusk lodge.
Music for the funeral service was provided by Mr. J. P. Watson, organist, who also accompanied Tim Johnson as he sang "The Lord's Prayer" and "In The Garden."
Burial was at Cairo, Neb., on Tuesday with a service there at 2:00 p.m.
Mr. Shoopman was born February 16, 1889, at Platte Center, Neb. He was reared in Cairo, Neb. and attended school there. He homesteaded at Angora, Neb., and on July 29, 1911, was married to Jessie Myers at Grand Island. About 1915 they came to Wyoming, homesteading near Shawnee. For a number of years Mr. Shoopman operated a store and elevator at Keeline. For several terms he served as either treasurer or sheriff of Niobrara County.
During the 50's he was with the State Land Management Association, and from 1952 to 1956 he operated the Silver Cliff Hotel in Lusk. He moved to Wheatland for a time and in 1961 returned to Cairo. He entered the hospital at Lusk in July of this year.
He was a member of St. George's Episcopal Church, the Shrine in Cheyenne and the National Sheriff's Association.
Mr. Shoopman is survived by a sister, Lizzie Orndoff, Cairo, Neb.; three granddaughters, Mrs. Harold Boyer, Bennett, Colo., Mrs. Richard Fernau, Lovell, and Mrs. Paul Moss, Lincoln, Neb.; and ten great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife in 1971 and two sons.
