Donald Owens died Jan. 22, 2000, at the Poplar Living Center in Casper after a lengthy battle with poor health.

He was born Dec. 10, 1930 at Crawford, Neb. the son of Ray Owens and Viola Wood Cheaney. He graduated from Crawford High School in 1949. He was a superb runner, which made him an avid football player, the sport he loved.

On Dec 19, 1950, he joined the U.S. Air Force serving in Korea, Iceland, Greenland, Germany and the Philippines. He retired from the Air Force as a Staff Sergeant on Dec. 1, 1970 at Mountain Home, Idaho. He enjoyed visiting with people about his military career and travels.

In 1971 he qualified for Civil Service as a postal employee and retired from the US Postal Service in Maine in 1991.

Donald had a great sense of humor and loved to tease, but he did not like to be teased in return. He loved small children and entertained them well.

He returned to Lusk in 1994 to the open and beautiful country he loved, and to be with his family again.

He was preceded in death by his father and step-mother Pearl, mother and step-father Merle, brother Larry who was killed in Viet Nam in 1969; and one special great- niece Tabitha Johnson in 1992.
