Alvina D. Kuns

Mass of Christian Burial for former Lusk resident Alvina D. Kuns, 93, was held at St. Joachim and St. Anne Catholic Church, with burial in the Sunland Memorial park, in Sun City, Ariz.

Alvina D. Kuns died Sept. 11, 1999 after a short illness at the Sun View Care Center in Youngtown, Ariz.

Alvina Martha (Dicks) Kuns was born in Sauk Centre, Minn., Nov. 7, 1905, the youngest of 12 children of Charles and Margareth (Schiemann) Dicks.

She was a life-long Catholic and a charter member of St. Joachim and St. Anne Catholic Church in Sun City, where she was involved and headed up many of the activities of that church.

Alvina married George D. Kuns on Sept. 10, 1941, in Douglas.

At one point in her life she also lived in Brooklyn, N.Y., where she attended beauty school; and in San Diego, Calif., during World War II. She lived in Lusk from 1938 until 1943, where she operated a beauty shop. She and her husband returned to Lusk in 1946 and purchased The Pioneer Cabin Camp from Bill Best.

They moved to Sun City, Ariz., in 1961 due to her husband's health. She resided in her home in Sun City until early 1996 when she could no longer live alone.

Alvina was a loving, caring person, giving much of her time to the visiting of many members of her church.

The Kuns had no children but considered two very dear friends as their daughters. They are sisters Daisy (Harold) Mundschenk of Sun City West, Ariz., and Lindie (Dale) Johnson of Grand Prairie, Texas. Also surviving are five adopted grand-children and 11 adopted great-grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband George in 1972, her parents, six sisters and five brothers.

Menke Funeral Home of Sun City was in charge of arrangements. Gifts or memorials may be sent to the Sun View Care Center, 12207 North 113th Avenue, Youngtown, AZ 85363.
