Funeral services for Ed Hoy, age 80, were held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 3, 1997, at the First Wyoming United Presbyterian Church in Torrington, Wyoming with Reverend Howard Roseberry officiating. Burial was in Valley View Cemetery. Memorials have been established to the Jay Em Church, Pinehaven Children's Home at St. Ignatius, Montana, and the Platte Valley Bible College at Scottsbluff, Nebraska.
Mr. Hoy died on Saturday, August 30, 1997, at Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff.
He was born May 30, 1917, on the family homestead in the Rawhide Buttes area of northern Goshen County the son of James Stanley and Mary Joanna "Jossie" (Pollack) Hoy. Ed attended county schools in the Rawhide Buttes area and later graduated from Lusk High School in 1934. He was in the trucking business as well as ranching until the late 1940's. On June 1, 1937 he married Annabell Brown in Scottsbluff. In 1938 they bought the Kelly ranch west of Jay Em. In 1947 they bought the grocery store at Yoder, Wyoming and operated that for six months. They returned to the ranch where they lived until 1986 when they retired to Torrington. Annabell died in 1992 and Ed married Bernice (Brown) Carmichael on September 6, 1992 in Jay Em.
He was a member of the Jay Em Church where he had served as an elder. He was a past president of Farm Bureau and he was on the Jay Em Cemetery Board. Ed served on the school board of District #6 and he was a member of the Goshen County Society and the Wyoming State Historical Society. He was a master gardener. While in high school he received a State FFA Degree. In years past he was active in indoor rifle competition. During his retirement he enjoyed traveling.
Survivors include his wife, Bernice of Pinedale, Wyoming, a daughter, Carol (Ron) Spaulding; a son, Calvin (Isabel) Hoy and a brother, Don Hoy, all of Torrington; three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife Annabell, a sister Helen, and two brothers, Raymond and Eugene.
Viewing hours at the Colyer Funeral Home were on Tuesday from noon to 7:00 p.m. and on Wednesday from 9:00 a.m. to noon and at the service.
