Lois Birch Hankins

Lois Birch Hankins died Sunday afternoon, May 6, 1990, at the home of her mother, Mary Birch, in Lusk, following a lengthy illness.

Lois was born Nov. 1, 1950, at Grand Island, Neb., the daughter of Mary and the late Clyde Birch. She attended schools at Manville and graduated from Niobrara County High School. She attended Casper College for one year and then attended beauty school in Casper. She was a licensed beautician.

She married Dennis Pickham on Dec. 30, 1970. He died Jan. 3 1983. She later married Terry Hankins on April 3, 1984.

One of her goals in life was to see a cure for the disease she suffered from, Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura, ITP), a rare form of leukemia. Lois donated her body to the University of Utah Medical School in Salt Lake City, Utah, for research.

She was preceded in death by her father and one sister, who died in infancy.

Survivors include her mother, Mary Birch of Lusk; one sister, Florence Neese of Phoenix, Ariz.; a brother, David Birch; a niece Angie Birch; and a nephew, Trevor Birch, all of Keeline.

Instead of a traditional funeral, the regular Sunday morning worship at the Lusk Church of Christ will be dedicated to Lois on May 20. A portion of that service will be a tribute to Lois. Following the 11 a.m. worship hour, coffee will be served at the home of Mary Birch. Feel free to call any time during the afternoon.

Memorials to the charity of your choice will be appreciated by the family.
