Graveside services for Viola M. Edmondson-Murnen, 82, will be held a 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 5, 2000, at the Mount Pisgah Cemetery shelter with Pastor Gordon Harper as officiant. She died Thursday, November 30, 2000 at Campbell County Memorial Hospital, Gillette, of natural causes.

Viola Margaret Murnen was born January 21, 1918, at Sidney, Neb. to Joseph Leroy and Hester Josephine (Fisher) Griffith, one of 18-21 children. Her father took a job in Wyoming and later moved his family. They settled on the Little Medicine near Medicine Bow, Wyo. She spent time in California after leaving school but later came back to Wyoming.

She married Val Edmondson in Lusk, Wyo. in October 1942 and moved to Gillette, Wyo. They were later divorced.

She was an office nurse in Gillette for Dr. Joe Hoadley, Dr. D. E. Lenz, Dr. Richard Baughman and Dr. Jerry Hannum. She was also an LPN at Campbell County Memorial Hospital.

She married William F. Murnen. He was later killed in a construction accident on June 20, 1963. She never remarried and moved to Rawlins, Wyo. in 1964 and later to Reno, Nev.

She was an avid golfer and bowler, enjoyed gardening and making jewelry. She is survived by daughter Carol Peterson, Gillette, Wyo.; son Bill and his wife Sarah Edmondson, Dickinson, Tex.; seven grandchildren; three great grandchildren; four sisters, Grace Ruth Hodson, Medicine Bow, Wyo.; Violet Goetman, Cowley Wyo.; Lucy Helmann, Willa Anderson-Griffith, both of Billings, Mont.; three brothers, Claudus Griffith, Oji, Cali.; Ted Griffith, Rock River, Wyo.; Norman Griffith, Arlington, Wash., and numerous nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, five sisters and 5 brothers. Wilson Funeral Home is in care of arrangements.
