Eva Dunn, Sioux County Pioneer, Dies in Denver

Mrs. Eva Dunn, 84, pioneer of Sioux County, died at Saint Lukes Hospital in Denver April 19 following a stroke the previous week.

Requiem Mass was offered in the Church of the Nativity at Harrison at 10 a.m. on Tuesday with Rosary being recited at the Church the previous evening at 7:30 p.m. Burial was in the local Catholic Cemetery. Pallbearers were Dick Dunn, Bill Dunn, Pat Dunn, Don Dunn, Harold Dunn, and Lloyd Dunn, all grandsons of the deceased.

Eva Marie (Sherrill) Dunn was born January 13, 1872 near Watseka, Ill. She married Richard M. Dunn February 22, 1891 and to them were born nine children, three of whom died in infancy.

The family came to Sioux County at Harrison in 1891. They moved to Colorado in 1892 to make their home for four years, but returned to Sioux County in 1896 and lived in this vicinity until 1948 when Mr. Dunn died. Mrs. Dunn has since made her home in Denver with her daughters.

She was a member of the Catholic Church being a member of the Church of the Nativity parish, Harrison, and Cathedral parish, Denver. She was an active member of the Altar and Rosary Societies and the League of the Sacred Heart.

She is survived by three sons: Lester, Arthur, and Vernon, all of Harrison; two daughters, Miss Merle Dunn and Mrs. Margaret Liggett, both of Denver; two sisters, Mrs. Edna Bradford, Englewood, Colo., and Mrs. Josephine Kennedy, Crawford; one brother Lew Sherrill, Harrison. There are 9 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. One son, Henry died in 1956.
