Raymond Morris Builds New Business
A new Business enterprise for Lusk is being rushed towards completion.
Raymond G. Morris purchased the building at the Gateway (entrance to the Lance Creek oil field), which had been used as a dance hall, and moved it to Lusk. The building was torn down in sections and moved to Lusk and the sections are being put in place with the assistance of Roger Cowell and a hydraulic haystacker which he made.
About a year ago Mr. Morris bought the residence of Mrs. Annie Allbright, situated west of Lusk on Highway 20, across the street northeast of the C & H Refinery. He is now joining his new property to his house and intends to cover it all with asphalt shingles and paint it white with green roofs.
Carpenters in charge of the construction work are W. V. Vaughn and Roy Raines.
Besides an apartment for the Morris family, the building will house a hamburger shop, a store for tourists, a machine and auto repair shop and a service station with two pumps. Mr. Morris does not know what gasoline line and products he will handle. He has also purchased some land across the street east of his property which he will grade and make into a parking lot.
The work on this new business is being rushed as rapidly as possible, for Mr. Morris states that he wants to catch his share of the tourist business and he thinks there will be plenty of it this summer. He plans to keep open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and says he will be able to give employment to a number of returning service men.
