The library will be closed on Monday, September 1 for Labor Day. Regular winter hours resume on Tuesday. Library hours are Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Wednesday, Noon until 8 p.m. and Sunday 12 to 5 p.m. Plan now to bring your family on Sunday afternoon’s to browse all of our holdings for children and adults.
Registration is now being taken for our Fall Afterschool programs. Children in the first and second grades meet on Tuesday beginning September 9 through October 28. Yvonne has fun activities and books featuring Dr. Seuss planned. Third, fourth and fifth grades will meet on Thursday beginning September 11 through October 30 and this program will feature books and activities by Andrew Clements. Both programs begin right afterschool and last until 4:30. Call today to register your children!
A new book for adults is “Swan Peak” by James Lee Burke. Detective Dave Robicheaux and his buddy, Clete Purcell, have retreated from Louisiana to an old friend’s ranch in Montana. Their serenity is soon shattered when two college students are found brutally murdered in nearby hills and they find themselves involved in a twisted and dangerous mystery.

New young adult books are “Would You” by Martha Jocelyn and “Queen of Babble Gets Hitched” by Meg Cabot.
The Lennea Lewis Slagle Children’s Library has these new junior books, “Ms. Krup Cracks Me Up” by Dan Gutman, “Princess Ellie’s Snowy Ride” by Diana Kimpton and “The Criminal in the Cayman” by Connie Lee Berry. New easy titles are “Never Take a Shark to the Dentist (and Other Things Not to Do)” by Julie Barrett, “Queen of Halloween” by Mary Engelbriet, “Horrible Harry Bugs the Three Bears” by Suzy Kline and “Going to the Firehouse” by Mercer Mayer.
“Monkey Shines!” is the theme for Storyhour on Tuesday, September 2, 2008 and Thursday, September 4, 2008. Storyhour is held each Tuesday and Thursday from 10 to 11 a.m. for children ages 3 through kindergarten throughout the year.
