Monday, September 29 the The Maltese Falcon will be shown at the library at 6 p.m. This film is the first of three in the fall “Film Noir” series. A light meal will be provided and Deane Tucker, PhD., Professor of Humanities at Chadron State College will be on hand to discuss this classic film. Double Indemnity will be shown Ocotber 27 and The Big Sleep will be shown on November 24. Plan now to attend!
Cilla McGowen has come to the Shenandoah Valley to rescue her grandmother’s farm house from ruin in Nora Robert’s newest book, “Tribute.” Her grandmother, the legendary actress, Janet Hardy, had committed suicide in this house more than 30 years ago. When Cilla finds a cache of unsigned letters suggesting Janet was pregnant when she died and that the father was a local married man, she can’t help wondering what really happened all those years ago.

The Lennea Lewis Slagle Children’s Library has these new chapter books, “Star Jumper” by Frank Asch, “The Arborist” by M. S. Holm and “Weedflower” by Cynthia Kadohata. New picture books are “Bertie at Bedtime” by Marcus Pfister, “Follow the Bear if You Dare” by Claire Freedman and “Silly Goose” by Marne McGee.
“Africa! is the theme for Storyhour on Tuesday, September 30, 2008 and Thursday, October 2, 2008. Storyhour is held each Tuesday and Thursday from 10 to 11 a.m. for children ages 3 through kindergarten throughout the year.
