The Friends of the Library will be hosting performer, Eric West at the library on Wednesday, August 26 for a Back-to-School program. Fun for the entire family the program will begin at 6:30 p.m. on the library lawn. All children will receive a book for their own; refreshments will also be served. Plan to attend this fun celebration sponsored by the Friends of the Library, NCSD Recreation District and the Niobrara County Library.
A new fiction book is “Return to Sullivan’s Island” by Dorothea Benton Frank. Newly graduated from college, Beth Haynes returns to Sullivan’s Island to house-sit the family home for a year. She is looking forward to the quiet time to contemplate her future and begin a writing career. Then she meets Max Mitchell and all her convictions and plans begin to unravel.
Other new fiction includes “When the Duke Returns” by Eloisa James, “Trust No One” by Greg Hurwitz, “Killer Summer” by Ridley Pearson, “Black Hills” by Nora Roberts and “Undone” by Karen Slaughter.
New on the non-fiction shelf are: “High Society: How Substance Abuse Ravages America and What To Do About It” by Joseph A. Califano, Jr., “Reaching the Animal Mind: Clicker Training and What It Teaches Us About Animals” by Karen Pryor and “Better Homes and Gardens 365 Days of Scrapbooking Ideas.”
New books for young adults are “Cold Hands, Warm Heart” by Jill Wolfson and “Along For the Ride” by Sarah Deesen.
The Lennea Lewis Slagle Children’s Library has these new books “Mudshank” by Gary Paulsen, “Smoke” by Marvis Jukes and “Rivers of Fire” by Patrick Carmen. Also available are: “I Can Do It” by Caleb Burroughs, “My Little Peanut” by Mark Munno and “Trains” by Lynn Carlee.
“School Days” is the theme for Storyhour on Tuesday, August 25 and Thursday, August 27. Storyhour is held on Tuesday and Thursday throughout the year from from 10 to 11 a.m. for children ages 3 through kindergarten.
