Wednesday, January 12 Rhonda Sedgwick Stearns will bring an evening of Cowboy Poetry to the library at 6:30 p.m. Stearns will entertain with works from classic cowboy poets as well as her original works. She has been a performing cowboy poet since the 80’s and in 2003 the Academy of Western Artists named her Top Cowgirl Poet of the year. The program, part of the Steed Reads Festival @ the Library is sure to entertain, so plan now to attend!

The movie, “The Silver Stallion” will be shown on Wednesday, January 19 at 2 p.m. This G rated film is 93 minutes and is the story of one man and his attempt to capture the legendary Silver Stallion.
A new suspense book is “The Prostitute’s Ball” by Stephen J. Cannell. A few days before Christmas, Detective Shane Scully and his wife, Alexa, respond to a call at a shutter mansion in the Hollywood Hills where a family was killed in cold blood on Christmas Eve decades ago. They discover the aftermath of a lavish party and three bodies all shot with the same gun. It appears to be an “open and shut” case when a security video shows an angry husband shooting all three. Except one spent bullet casing doesn’t match the rest and from that bullet emerges a tale of love, murder, suicide, and one of the biggest financial frauds in L.A.

New adult non-fiction books are “The Hard Way Around: the Passage of Joshua Slocum” by Geoffrey Wolff, “The Amish Way: Patient Faith in a Perilous World” by Donald B. Kraybill and “The Art of Comforting: What to Say and Do for People in Distress” by Val Walker.
The Lennea Lewis Slagle Children’s Library has these new books, “Making a Wave” by Bernadette Kelly and “Ballet Bullies” and “Off the Bench” by Jake Maddox as well as “Who Turned Up the Heat” by Lisa S. French, “Matt and Sid” by Sindy McKay and “Frank and the Giant” by Dev Ross.
