Brothers, Phillip and Paul Collins will present a program based on their book, “The Ascendancy of the Scientific Dictatorship: an examination of epistemic autocracy, from the 19th to the 21st century” on Wednesday, July 11 at 6:30 p.m. Their work tells the story of how the criminal elite hijacked science and transformed it into a weapon against the masses. Thursday, July 12 the Afternoon Movie will be “The Muppets.” On vacation in Los Angeles, Walter, the world’s biggest Muppet fan, and his friends from Smalltown, USA, discover the nefarious plan of oilman Tex Richman to raze the Muppet Theater and drill for the oil beneath the Muppets’ former stomping grounds. The Muppets reunite in order to raise the $10-million needed to save the theater. Sure to be adventurous. Bring your own drink, the library provides the popcorn; rated PG and 98 minutes.
A new title by Robert K. Tanenbaum is “Bad Faith.” New York District Attorney Karp has no qualms about putting David and Nonie Ellis on trial for reckless manslaughter since they denied their son medical treatment, choosing to rely solely on prayers. The Ellis’s minister, Reverend Westlund needs them to be exonerated since he and his church are the beneficiaries to the son’s insurance. Karp’s wife, a private investigator finds enough evidence in Westlund’s past to ruin the con man’s scheme…if she doesn’t get herself blown away in the process.

New non-fiction books are “Love, Life, and Elephants: an African Love Story” by Dame Daphne Sheldwick, “The Second World War” by Antony Beevor and “My Extraordinary Life” by Sissy Spacek.
The Lennea Lewis Slagle Children’s Library has these new books: “Scorpion Sting” by Justin D’Ath, “Party Dreams” by Sue Bentley and “Spirit of Adventure” by Irene Trimble. Some new easy titles are “Plant a Little Seed” by Bonnie Christensen, “You Will Be My Friend” by Peter Brown and “Ten Rules You Absolutely Must Not Break If You Want to Survive the School Bus” by John Grandits.
