“Perfume River” is by Pulitzer Prize winning author Robert Olen Butler. Florida State College tenured professors, Robert and Darla Quinlan’s marriage was forged in the fervor of anti-Vietnam War protests and now bears the fractures of time. The cracks in their relationship remain under the surface whereas the division in Robert’s family is more apparent. He has no relationship with his brother, Jimmy, who became estranged from the family as the Vietnam War intensified. Now as their father, a veteran of World War II draws near the end of his life, aftershocks of war ripple across the family once again.
