Have you checked out the digital libraries Libby and Hoopla? Both have apps that are available in your app stores and can be accessed at no charge with your library card number and PIN. Libby is powered by Overdrive and currently has over 77,000 ebooks, audiobooks and magazine titles that can all be checked out and downloaded for offline use. A recent addition is ArtistWorks which is a unique opportunity to learn a musical instrument with world-class basic and advanced instruction from Grammy-Award winning professionals. ArtistWorks includes lessons for everything from guitar to harmonica to piano to vocals to drums and more! Your library card number and PIN give you access to these self-paced streaming lessons for 30 days and are accessible anywhere. After 30 days, simply check ArtistWorks out again.

Hoopla provides hundreds of thousands of items that are available all the time – ebooks, audiobooks, music, comics, television shows, movies, and magazines. Hoopla also offers several “BingePasses” that include Hallmark Movies Now, the Great Courses, Comic Kingdom, Medici.TV, KidzVid and many, many more more – with this feature you check out one BingePass and can then access multiple items that don’t count against the monthly check-out limit! T. Jefferson Parker’s latest novel is “Desperation Reef.” In this fast-paced thriller Jen Stonebreaker hasn’t entered a big-wave surfing competition since her husband’s death 25-years ago in the Monsters of Mavericks. Now she is ready to tackle those same monsters with her twin sons, Casey and Brock. As the big-wave contest draws closer, a huge late fall swell is headed toward the Pacific coastline. Jen fears for herself and her sons and what this competition will mean for the rest of her life. “Desperation Reef” is also available on CD.

“Murder on the Plains: the Killing of “Diamond L. Slim” Clifton” by Newcastle’s Lucas Keeler is among new non-fiction books along with “Dark Calories: How Vegetable Oils Destroy Our Health and How We Can Get It Back” by Catherine Shanahan and “You Are the Girl For the Job” by Jess Connolly.

The Lenna Lewis Slagle Children’s Library has these new chapter books “Dogman: Fetch 22” by Dav Pilkey, “The Serpent and the Beast” by Aaron Babley and “Amelia Earhart and the Flying Chariot” by Steve Sheinkin. Some of the newer picture books include “Sloth is Not a Baby” by Nelly Buchet, “The Digger and the Dark” by Joseph Kuefler, “Fox Vs Fox” by Corey R. Tabor, “Otis and Peanut Forever and Ever” by Naseem Hrab and “Lucky Ducky’s Very First Day of School” by Mercer Mayer.
