Niobrara County rancher Jim Kruse will share the story of the Lightning Creek Fight on Wednesday, September 11 at 6 p.m. at the library. Just before sunset on October 31, 1903 a sheriff’s posse and a band of Oglala Sioux from the Pine Ridge Reservation engaged in a brief, sharp gunfight near Lightning Creek, northeast of Douglas, Wyoming. The five-minute gunfight resulted in 7 deaths including Weston County Sheriff William Miller. Nolan Chase’s debut Ethan Brand novel is entitled “A Lonesome Place for Dying.” In the seaside town of Blaine, Washington a body shows up on the railroad tracks – the town’s first homicide in years. “Unlikely Fighter: the Story of How a Fatherless Street Kid Overcame Violence, Chaos, & Confusion to Become a Radical Christ Follower” by Greg Stier is among new non-fiction books along with “The Traveler’s Gift: Seven Decisions That Determine Personal Success” by Andy Andrews and “There is No Ethan: How Three Women Caught America’s Biggest Catfish” by Anna Akbari.
The Lenna Lewis Slagle Children’s Library has these new titles: “Ben Washington is the Newbie on the Block” by Jasmine Mullen, “Upside Down Magic: Hide and Seek” by Sarah Mlynowski and “Phoebe and Her Unicorn” series by Dana Simpson.
