The Friends of the Library have a huge day planned on Saturday, June 26. The fun begins at 8 a.m. with the annual book sale and TONS of books! At 11 a.m. the Ice Cream Social, featuring homemade cakes and ice cream begins on the north lawn of the library. Proceeds help with library programming as well as Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library. Have you signed your young children up for this program? Visit http://imaginationlibrary.com to register and your children, up to age 5, will receive a new book each month in the mail! If you have questions stop by the library – or stop by the book sale on the 26th and sign up your children then!
The Friends will be sponsoring puppeteer Markie Scholz with her show “Imagining Dragons” at 1 p.m. at the library on Wednesday, June 30. Liza wants a pet, a kitty, but her mom doesn’t, so she decides to conjure up one from a book she found while volunteering at the library. Only problem is, she gets a dragon instead of a kitty…. Whatever will Liza do? Plan now to attend!
“Ocean Prey” is John Sandford’s latest novel. Three guardsmen, who are sent to investigate a lone pickup in the middle of the ocean are shot and killed. They are federal officers so the case goes to the FBI, but when the case stalls Lucas Davenport gets a call. Lucas will need every asset he can claim – including a detective with a fundamentally criminal mind, Virgil Flowers. “Ocean Prey” is also available on CD and digitally through Libby/Overdrive.

“The Light of Days: the Untold Story of Women Resistance Fighters in Hitler’s Ghetto” by Judy Batalion is among new non-fiction titles along with “Bipolar, Not So Much: Understanding Your Mood Swings and Depression” by Chris Aiken, M.D. and “The Words That Made Us: America’s Constitutional Conversations, 1760 – 1840” by Akhil Reed Amar.
The Lennea Lewis Slagle Children’s Library has these new junior titles “Captain Underpants and the Tyrannical Retaliation of the Turbo Toilet, 2000” by Dav Pilkey, “Megabat and the Not-Happy Birthday” by Anna Humphrey and “The Badger Thurston Series” by Gus Brackett. Newer easy books include “We Became Jaguars” by Dave Eggers, “Doggo and Pupper” by Katherine Applegate, “The Duck Who Didn’t Like Water” by Steve Small, and “Fishing With Dad” by Kevin Lovegreen.
