The second of four films in the Dinner & Movie series will be featured on Monday, September 30 at 6 p.m. with “The Quick and the Dead.” A mysterious female gunslinger arrives in the frontier hamlet of Redemption for a contest that pits quick-draw artists against each other. The event is the brainchild of Redemption’s evil and corrupt mayor Herod – a criminal who has taken over the town and charges a 50% tax on local businesses. This film is rated R and 108 minutes; a meal will be provided.

A new novel by Kristen Harmel is “The Paris Daughter.” Elise and Juliette, both Americans in Paris in 1939, become fast friends. When Elsie becomes a target for the Germans, she flees, leaving her young daughter, Mathilde, in Juliette’s care. When the war ends, Elsie returns to reunite with her daughter only to find Juliette’s store reduced to rubble and no sign of either Juliette or Mathilde. Elise’s desperate search leads her to New York – and to Juliette one final fateful time. “The Paris Daughter” is also available in Libby.

“The Infinite Light of Dust” by Anna Todd is among new fiction books along with “The Gilded Crown” by Marianne Gordon, “Tall Trouble in Terlingua” by James J. Griffin, “Body Check” by Elle Kennedy, “The Protector” by Wanda E. Brunstetter, “Last Chance Gulch” by B. N. Rundell, “The Thief of Lanwyn Manor” by Sarah E. Ladd, “Peach Tea Smash” by Laura Childs and “The Angry Land” by William W. Johnstone. New young adult books are “Secret Soldiers” by Keely Hutton and “Impossible Escape: a True Story of Survival and Heroism in Nazi Europe” by Steve Sheinkin.

New non-fiction books are “The Ruthless Elimination of Hurry” by John Mark Comer, “The Horse: a Galloping History of Humanity” by Timothy C. Winegard and “Advanced Home Wiring, Current with 2023-2026 Electrical Codes.”

The Lenna Lewis Slagle Children’s Library has these new chapter books “Cornbread and Poppy For the Win” by Matthew Cordell and “Abigail Adams: Pirate of the Caribbean” by Steve Sheinkin. Among the newer picture books are “Camp Daisy” by Kim Thompson, “Sour Apple” by Linda Lui, “Like No Other” by Sneed B. Collard III, “My Daddy is a Cowboy” by Stephanie Seales and “Evergreen” by Matthew Cordell.

“Batty!” is the theme for Storyhour on October 1, 2024. Storyhour is held from 10 to 11 a.m. every Tuesday throughout the year for preschool-aged children. The Friends of the Library sponsor Dial-A-Story, call 307-334-3274 anytime!
