The second movie in the fall Dinner & Movie series is “The Quick and the Dead” showing on Monday, September 30 at 6 p.m. A mysterious female gunslinger (Sharon Stone) arrives in the frontier hamlet of Redemption for a contest pitting quick-draw artists against each other. The event is the brainchild of Redemption’s evil, corrupt mayor, Herod, a criminal who has taken over the town and charges a 50% tax on local businesses. The film is rated R and is 108 minutes and a meal will be available. Library programs are free and open to the public.

“These Great Dark Days” is a novel of World War II by local author Adah Pflughoeft. Aviation factory girl Edith Emerson watches the world fall apart around her in 1944. She soon realizes that not even the middle-sized town of Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania can escape the privations and tragedies of war. As she endeavors to gaze into the future, her attention is pulled to the past and to the enduring question – can the best of love conquer the worst of evils?

“The Traveler’s Summit” by Andy Andrews and “Flower Academy” by Alexander Campbell are among new non-fiction titles.

The Lenna Lewis Slagle Children’s Library has these new chapter books “Abraham Lincoln, Pro Wrestler” by Steve Sheinkin and “Cat Kid Comic Club: Collaborations” by Dave Pilkey. Some of the newer picture books are “Tate’s Wild Rescue” by Jenny Turnbull, “A Maleta Full of Treasures” by Natalia Sylvester, “Touch the Sky” by Stephanie V.W. Lucianovic, “Thankful Fall Fun” by Courtney Carbone and “Spider in the Well” by Jess Hannigan.

“Johnny Appleseed!” is the theme for Storyhour on September 24, 2024. Storyhour is held from 10 to 11 a.m. every Tuesday throughout the year for preschool-aged children. Call 307-334-3274 anytime to hear a recorded story! Dial-A-Story is sponsored by the Friends of the Library.
