The Dinner & Movie series kicks off on Monday, August 26 at 6 p.m. with “Cat Ballou.” This wild and woolly adventure is the ultimate American spoof of the American Western. The film is not rated and is 97 minutes. The series features four western films with female leads. A light meal will be available and as always, library programs are free and open to the public.

The first book in the “Reading List” book discussion series is “1984” by George Orwell, stop by the library to pick up a copy of the book which is slated to be discussed on Tuesday, September 3 at 6 p.m.

“Sunflower Sisters” the third installment in the Caroline Ferriday series by Martha Hall Kelly and is inspired by true accounts.  Sweeping across war-torn battlefields to bustling New York City to the atrocities at southern plantations this is an unforgettable story of three women caught in a country on the brink of collapse whose destinies intertwine during the strife of the Civil War. Georgeanna Woolsey is a Union nurse who crosses paths with Jemma, a young enslaved girl who is sold off and conscripted into the army, and Anne May Wilson, a plantation mistress whose husband enlists. “Sunflower Sisters” is also available in Libby.

Johnstone, “Flashpoint” by Catherine Coulter, “Breaking the Dark” by Lisa Jewell, “Red Star Falling” by Steve Bery, “The Accomplice” by Steve Cavanagh, “Some Murders in Berlin” by Karen Robards and “Swan Song” by Elin Hilderbrand. “All My Rage” by Sabaa Tahir is among new young adult books.

“Exploring Newcastle, Wyoming with Leonard Cash” by Leonard Cash is a recent nonfiction addition along with “When the Night Comes Falling: a requiem for the Idaho Student Murders” by Howard Blum and “Out in the Woods: An Introductory Guide to America’s 155 National Forests” by Wyoming’s Scott Sink.

The Lenna Lewis Slagle Children’s Library has these several new books available including “The Mysterious Benedict Society and the Riddle of Ages” by Trenton Lee Stewart, “Amari and the Great Game” by B.B. Alston and “The Last Mapmaker” by Christina Soontornvat. New picture books include “Ladybug Girl and the Big Snow” by David Soman, “Interrupting Chicken and the Elephant of Surprise” by David Ezra Stein, “The First Day of School” by Matt Huntley and “There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Worm” by Lucille Colandro.

“Tooth Fairy!” is the theme for Storyhour on August 27, 2024. Storyhour is held from 10 to 11 a.m. every Tuesday throughout the year for preschool-aged children. Call 307-334-3274 anytime to hear a recorded story! Dial-A-Story is sponsored by the Friends of the Library.
