Ventriloquist Meghan Casey and Rocky Mountain Puppets return to the library on Monday, July 22 at 10 a.m. with the puppet show, “Expedition Underground.” After months of preparation, Meghan and Aidan are finally embarking on their quest to uncover rare fossils in a mysterious cave, but they get more than they bargain for after an earthquake hits trapping them INSIDE the cave! The duo discovers an ancient petroglyph drawing that appears to be a map with puzzles that needs to be solved to make it to the cave exit. One wrong move and they could fall into a dangerous trap. Everyone involved will need to work together and harness their Indiana Jones alter-ego to make it out safely during this “Expedition Underground.” Plan to attend! Library programs are free and open to the public.

The third of three Paint @ the Library events will be held on Monday, August 5 at 1 p.m. A still-life will be featured, to register call the library at (307) 334-3490. Children under the age of ten should be accompanied by an adult.

Mark your calendar for the Friends of the Library’s Foam Party event to be held on Tuesday, August 6 at 5 p.m. Fun for everyone!

A new book by Taylor Bown is entitled “Rednecks.” This historical novel dramatizes the 1920-1921 West Virginia mine wars from the Matewan Massacre through the Battle of Blair Mountain. It pits a multiethnic army of 10,000 coal miners against mine owners, state militia, and the U.S. government in the largest labor uprising in America’s history.

Other new books include “The Heiress’s Daughter” by Anne Gracie, “Look on the Bright Side” by Kristan Higgins, “The 24th Hour” by James Patterson, “Swap and Smell the Roses” by Karen Booth, “The Sweetest Thing” by Sasha Summers, “Beyond the Ranges” by John Ringo, “Reunion” by Elise Juska, and “The Comfort of Ghosts” by Jacqueline Winspear. A new young adult book is “Yonder” by Ali Standish.

“Long Haul: Hunting the Highway Serial Killers” by Frank Figliuzzi is among new non-fiction books along with “Bits and Pieces: My Mother, My Brother, and Me” by Whoopi Goldberg, and “The Everything War: Amazon’s Ruthless Quest to Own the World and Remake Corporate Power” by Dana Mattioli.

The Lenna Lewis Slagle Children’s Library has these new junior book titles “Timmi Tobbson: A Family Secret” by B. Vitale, “Bo and the Witch” by Rebecca Ellicott and “Lines of Courage” by Jennifer A. Nielson. A few of the newer easy books include “Toads Make Loaves” by Kim Thompson, “A Bear, a Fish, and a Fishy Wish” by Daniel Bernstorm, “Pete the Cat For Class President” by Kimberly Dean, “King of the Mountain” by Susie Lee Jin and “The Den That Octopus Built” by Randi Sonenshine.

“Tell a Joke a Day!” is the theme for Storyhour on July 23, 2024. Storyhour is held from 10 to 11 a.m. every Tuesday throughout the year for preschool-aged children. Call 307-334-3274 anytime to hear a recorded story! The Friends of the Library sponsor Dial-A-Story.
