The Niobrara County Library will sponsor a free presentation by Richard and Mary Maturi on Wednesday, May 3 at 425 S. Main, Lusk, WY at 6:30 p.m. Of the thousands of jockeys and horses who have plied America’s turf, only eleven men have ever won the Triple Crown. Maturi will introduce Western jockey Earl Sande, winner of the 1930 Triple Crown on Gallant Fox. Participants will leave with an appreciation of the jockey as the ultimate athlete and the key role horses played in early American history and recreation.
Richard Maturi is a published author of more than a score of books, some in collaboration with his wife Mary, and more than 1000 articles. Richard and Mary collaborate on their presentations. Earl Sande, Triple Crown Winner is presented by the Wyoming Humanities Council as part of its ThinkWY Road Scholars Tours program.
The Wyoming Humanities Council provides public humanities-based programs in partnership with local organizations and is funded by the National Endowment for the Humanities with additional support from private donors and the Wyoming Legislature.
