If you haven’t registered your children for the winter afterschool sessions, now is the time to call or stop by. The programs begin the week of January 6 and are held from afterschool until 4:30 p.m. Children in kindergarten will gather on Mondays, first and second grade children on Tuesdays and third, fourth & fifth grade children on Thursdays through the last week in February. Landsdale, “The Thicket.” His grandmother died in a farm accident and his parents had just succumbed to a smallpox epidemic orphaning him and his younger sister, Lula. On the way to his uncle’s farm bandits killed his grandfather and kidnapped his sister. With no elders left for miles, Jack must grow up fast and enlist any kind of help he can for his sister to stand any chance of survival.

The Lennea Lewis Slagle Children’s Library has this new junior book “Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Hard Luck” by Jeff Kinney. Some new picture books are “Meet Me at the Moon” by Gianna Marino and “Mr. Putter & Tabby Drop the Ball” by Cynthia Rylant.
