Effective immediately the hours at the Niobrara County Library will be cut. The library board of trustees has had to reduce staff hours in order to balance a proposed deficit of $27,508 due to the county valuation drop. Library hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday. Sunday hours will not resume in the fall.
The Niobrara County Library Foundation has been working diligently to raise endowment funds and to date, over $83,000 has been granted into the library budget for general operations. Due to the declining economy over the past two years grant funds from endowment are not available. The foundation continues to raise funds for endowment that will be matched with $3 from the state for every dollar raised.
Grant funds from other sources also are not currently available. The library has received a grant from the Niobrara County Recreation District that will ensure that materials are still available for you and your family to checkout. Programming will also be continued with support from the Recreation District, the Wyoming Humanities Council and the Friends of the Library.
Niobrara County Board of Trustees are Pat Bruch, outgoing chairman; Ted Holman, incoming chairman; Carol Kilmer, Kristine Groh, Rodney Ross and incoming board member Wes VanHooshier.
