It’s a MAGIC SHOW! Coming, Wednesday, August 27 at 6:30 p.m. at the library! Cody Landstrom will be entertaining children of all ages in a back to school program sponsored by the Friends of the Library. Children in attendance will receive their very own book courtesy of the Friends of the Library and root beer floats will be served as well. In the event of too much wind or inclement weather the show will be held at LEMS. Plan now to bring the whole family!
Registration for the fall session of afterschool programs begins Tuesday, August 26. Children in first and second grades will “Hang Loose with Dr. Seuss” each Tuesday, right after school until 4:30 p.m. from September 9 through October 28. Students in grades 3-5 will meet from 3:20 to 4:30 on Thursday afternoons from September 11 to October 30. The theme for this group will be “No Talking!” with Andrew Clements. Registration for these programs is required due to space limitations, so be sure to call the library soon to reserve a spot for your child.
“Chasing Darkness” by Robert Crais is on the new book shelf and available as a book on CD. Private Detective, Elvis Cole helped clear Lionel Byrd of a murder charge several years ago. When Byrd is found dead with a “murder book” that seems to prove he was a serial killer, Cole sets out to find the person he believes has set Byrd up – but it seems Elvis is the one on trial.
Other new fiction books are “The Random Passage” by Jacques Lamarche, “Into the Shadows” by Christine Dodd, “Sister’s Choice” by Emilie Richards, “Don’t Tell a Soul” by David Rosenfelt and “The Last Patriot” by Brad Thor.
New non-fiction books are “The Great Plains During World War II” by R. Douglas Hurt, “The Well-Adjusted Dog: Dr. Dodman’s Seven Steps to Lifelong Health and Happiness for Your Best Friend” by Dr. Nicolas H. Dodman and “Obama: A Promise of Change” by David Mendall.
A new young adult book is “The Magician” by Michael Scott.

“ABC’S” is the theme for Storyhour on Tuesday, August 26, 2008 and Thursday, August 28, 2008. Storyhour is held each Tuesday and Thursday from 10 to 11 a.m. for children ages 3 through kindergarten throughout the year.
