The “Dragon and the Doodle Bug” Puppet Show was enjoyed by over 60 children and adults. If you didn’t get a chance to enjoy this live performance we will have DVD’s available for checkout soon. The Summer Reading program, “Catch the Reading Bug” ended this past week with over 16,100 pages being read by the children participating. Yvonne and the children enjoyed crafts, activities and books about the world of bugs. The “Hey Kids!” program continues throughout the summer, if you haven’t signed up be sure to do so!
Thursday, July 17 at 1 p.m. the film, “Surf’s Up” will be shown at the library. You are invited to come join Cody, a Rockhopper penguin, as he journeys from his home in Shiverpool, Antarctica, to take part in the Big Z Memorial Surf-Off on a beautiful Pen Gu Island. During his adventure he meets many new friends. This PG film is 85 minutes long. We’ll provide the popcorn, but bring your own drink.
A new book for adults is “Another Man’s Moccasins” by Wyoming author, Craig Johnson. When the body of Vietnamese woman is found alongside the interstate in Absaroka County, Wyoming, Sheriff Walt Longmire is forced to confront the horrible similarities of this murder to that of his first homicide investigation as a marine in Vietnam.
Other new books are “The Front” by Patricia Cornwell, “The Adventures of Slim and Howdy” by Kix Brooks and Ronnie Dunn, “Mack to the Rescue” by Jim Lehrer, “Odd Hours” by Dean Koontz and “Moonpool” by P.T. Deutermann.
New adult non-fiction ncludes “Sleep to be Sexy, Smart, and Slim: Get the Best Sleep of Your Life Tonight and Every Night” by Ellen Michaud and “Don’t Fill Up on the Antipasto: Tony Danza’s Father-Son Cookbook” by Tony Danza.
A new young adult book is “Raven Rise” by D.J. MacHale.
The Lennea Lewis Slagle Children’s Library has these new junior books: “Bravo, Mia” by Laurence Yep and “Traitor in Williamsburg” by Elizabeth McDonald. New picture books are “Curious You on Your Way” by H.A. Rey, “Fine as We Are” by Algy Craig Hall and “Emily” by Michael Bedard.
“Desert” is the theme for Storyhour on Tuesday, July 22, 2008 and Thursday, July 24, 2008. Storyhour is held each Tuesday and Thursday from 10 to 11 a.m. for children ages 3 through kindergarten throughout the year.
