Living History Program to be Sept. 26

Have you picked up your copy of “My Antonia” by Willa Cather? If not, please stop in soon as the first program, “A Living History” will be presented on Wednesday, September 26 at 6:30 at the library. Lynne Swanson will present a first-person performance of Willa Cather. This program, along with the Willa Cather & Material Culture Exhibit that is now on display kicks off our local programming which continues through mid-November. Sunday hours are going strong. Our very first Sunday (September 9) brought in almost 40 children and adults! Hours are Noon until 5 p.m. on Sunday and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday and Noon until 8 p.m. on Wednesday.

Monday, September 24 at 6 p.m. the film, “North Country” will be shown as part of the Wyoming Council for the Humanities Border Lines film series. This film is based on an actual class-action lawsuit, and follows the experience of a young woman
who suffers sexual harassment when she takes a job at a Minnesota iron mine. This is the third of five films and features a light meal, as well as discussion.

A new suspense book for adults is “Up Close and Dangerous” by Linda Howard. Wealthy young widow Bailey Wingale nearly dies when her small plane crashes, leaving Bailey and her pilot, Cam Justice, stranded in the wilderness…but, was it an accident? Other new fiction includes “Someone to Love” by Jude Deveraux, “The Mirror of Worlds” by David Drake, “The Guardians” by Ana Castillo, “Secret Servant” by Daniel Silva and “Savages” by Bill Pronzini. New non-fiction books are “Satan’s Circus: Murder, Vice, Police Corruption, and New York’s Trial of the
Century”
by Mike Dash, “Rising Sons: the Japanese-American GI’s who fought for the United States in World War II” by Bill Yenne and “Frontiers: a Short History of the American West” by Robert V. Hine.

“Blood Brothers” by S. A. Harazin is a new title for the young adults.

The Lennea Lewis Slagle Children’s Library has these new junior titles “Once Upon a Curse” by E. D. Baker, “Ivy and Bean” by Annie Barrows, “Jack Drake: Teacher’s Pet” by Andrew Clements and “Lucy on the Loose” by Ilene Cooper. New easy titles are “Sometimes I’m Bombaloo” by Rachel Vail, “Whopper Cake” by Karma Wilson, “The Wizard” by Jack Prelutsky and “Can You Make a Piggy Giggle?” by Linda Ashman.

“Fall Leaves Fall!” is the theme for Storyhour on Tuesday, September 25, 2007 and Thursday, September 27, 2007. Storyhour is held every Tuesday and/or Thursday from 10 to 11 a.m. for children ages 3 through kindergarten.
