The Friends of the Library Annual Book Sale and Ice Cream Social will be held on Saturday, June 23. The book sale begins at 8 a.m. in front of the old jail (east of the library). The ice cream social begins at 11 a.m. Funds raised from these events add new books to the library shelves as well as help with other Friends of the Library projects.
The 3rd Annual No Limit Texas Hold-em Tournament will be held on Saturday, July 14 at 11 a.m. For more information contact Tom Dooper, 334-2013 or 334-2500, Liz Kaltenheuser, 334-2906 or the
library at 334-3490. This is a fundraiser for the NCLF Endowment Fund.
Summer reading is in full swing and the “Hey, Kids!” program is also beginning. Stop by the library to find out more about these programs. Thursday afternoon movies are also being held throughout the summer. “Hoot,” “Cars” and “Bridge to Terabithia” are scheduled for the rest of June.
“The Quilter’s Homecoming” by Jennifer Chiaverini is on the new shelf. Newlyweds, Elizabeth and Henry set out on a cross-country journey to the site of their new home only to discover that they have been victims of fraud and are now penniless. This is the newest Elm Creek Quilts novel. Other new titles include “What the Dead Know” by Laura Lippman, “A Tendering in the Storm” by Jane Kirkpatrick, “We Shall Not Sleep” by Anne Perry, “The Canyon of Bones” by Richard S. Wheeler and “The 6th Target” by James Patterson.
New non-fiction titles are “The Shape of Love” by Masaru Emoto, “The Official Price Guide to Mint Errors” by Alan Herbert and “Nemesis: the Last Days of the American Republic” by Chalmers Johnson.
New for our young adults are “The Virtual Life of Lexie Diamond” by Victoria Foyt and “It’s Kind of a Funny Story” by Ned Vizzini.
New books in the Lennea Lewis Slagle Children’s Library include “Peak” by Roland Smith and The Saddle Island Series: “Gallop to the Sea” and “Secrets of the Sand” by Sharon Siamon. New picture books, “And the Train Goes?.” by William Bee, “The Boy Who Was Raised by Librarians” by Carla Morris and “A Good Day” by Kevin Henkes are also available.
“Very Fishy!” is the theme for Storyhour on Tuesday, June 19, 2007 and Thursday, June 21, 2007. Storyhour is now held every Tuesday and Thursday from 10 to 11 p.m. for children ages 3 through kindergarten.
